To be away for a 2,5 months long vacation trip means that I need to take a leave of absence, in other words unpaid vacation. The fewer days I need to do that - the better since it is affecting my overall budget for the trip. So now I need to do some clever math:
The total trip consists of 58 days working days.
When I checked with my companies HR department, I found - to my BIG surprise - that I have 47 days of vacation. That means I need to take only 11 days of unpaid vacation.
At the moment I’m working double: full time on a consultancy assignment and then I have to take care of “my” regions sales in the evenings. (I’m responsible for my company’s sales in the region from India to Japan and down to New Zeeland.) In average I’m working 1 hour extra per day with this, which means in total around 35 hours of extra work during the weeks before my trip. That adds up to another 4-5 days of paid leave and means that I can get down to 6-7 days unpaid vacation.
One of our customers requested today that we should run some workshops in California. It so happens that the workshops the customer required is “my” material. I have run this workshop many times before. The requested date was in the middle of July, exactly when I’m in California. This means that if I take on this assignment I will work 2 days on my vacation. So at the moment it looks like I will only need to take 4-5 days of unpaid vacation.
I think that is pretty good, since I from the beginning calculated with nearly 30 days of unpaid vacation. In other words: I will have more money for shopping in Hong Kong. :-) LOOKING GOOOOOOD!!!
